HEAT ENERGY FROM THE LASER SHRINKS THE VEIN
A laser fibre is inserted in the damaged vein with the help of ultrasound. The treatment is performed on an out-patient basis, with the patient being given pain relief and a local anaesthetic in the area being treated. The heat energy from the laser causes the vein to shrink and shut down. The treatment takes 45–60 minutes per leg. The patient can go home after a short period of observation.
Following the treatment, the patient has to use support stockings for a few days.
The patient needs to take one to three days off work following laser treatment.
