CO2 (carbon dioxide) lasers are used to tackle skin changes and to remove moles, warts and small cysts and also to smooth skin and scars. A CO2 laser can also be used to smooth out wrinkles, fine lines and pigment changes. Solar keratosis, also known as actinic keratosis, which is caused by the sun’s UV rays, can also be treated with a CO2 laser. Actinic keratosis is a preliminary stage of squamous cell cancer that needs to be treated.

Carbon dioxide lasers are also appropriate for the treatment of some skin diseases:

  • cholesterol spots or xanthelasma
  • rhinophyma, i.e. thickening of the skin of the nose due to rosacea
  • partial removal of ingrowing nails
