TYPE 1 DIABETES
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a disease that is caused by a lack of insulin. The pancreas does not produce or produces too little insulin, which is of vital importance for survival. Type 1 diabetes is also called juvenile diabetes as the majority to develop the disease do so under the age of 40.
Typical symptoms are increased urine production (polyuria), thirst, tiredness and weight loss. The symptoms appear really quickly. In Finland, diabetes among children is more common than it is anywhere else in the world.
