The ophthalmologist treats and prevents eye diseases
Aside from treating eye diseases, regular eye examinations are an important part of well-being and the prevention of disease. It is also a good idea to consult the ophthalmologist when you are suffering from conjunctivitis, dry eyes or if you want to get more information about eye health.
Common eye diseases the ophthalmologists treats are:
- cataracts
- glaucoma
- optic nerve diseases
- diseases of the retina
- age-related macular degeneration
- functional visual impairment
- squints
- inflammation of the eye’s anterior segment
One of the most common eye diseases is cataract; cataract surgery is therefore one of the most common ophthalmic surgery procedures in the world. It is also possible to consult an ophthalmologist for functional problems with the eyelid.

SMILE laser vision correction
Thanks to the latest SMILE technology, the eye's refractive error can be corrected without the traditional corneal flap. This keeps the surface layer of the eye more intact and reduces the risk of dry eyes. Studies show that the treatment results of SMILE surgeries are excellent. Here in Eira we are using the latest laser equipment Zeiss VisuMax 800.
